Racial Profiling Essay Example for Free
Racial Profiling Essay A person should not be judged due to their appearance. Today skin color makes you a suspect in America. It makes you more likely to be stopped, more likely to be searched, and more likely to be arrested and imprisoned. When police officers stop or charge a person based on their race; thatââ¬â¢s racial profiling. Racial profiling has been occurring around the nation for years. Statistics show that if a Caucasian man and an African American man are both driving a nice car and speeding at the same time; the police officer is most likely to stop the African-American man. Not only is racial profiling wrong, but is disrespectful to minorities, and should be illegal throughout America. Racial profiling should be illegal because it causes discomfort and humiliation to many minority citizens, lack of unity in the American people, and the possibility of real criminals getting away because he is not a minority thus becoming a threat to society. Racial profiling causes a huge discomfort and humiliation to many minority citizens. New Jersey officials admitted to racial profiling on April 20, 1999. The report showed that racial profiling practices in New Jersey are not just an insight. The report recognized the targeting of African American and Latino drivers to troopers who abused their positions by ignoring the rights of minorities. Police officers dont understand how degrading and humiliating this can be. Yes racial profiling can be used by countries to fight crimes thus giving security to its citizens, but it also causes a discomfort to minorities. Additionally, the more police continue to arrest citizens based on their race, cultural background, and religion the more we lack unity in America. When police officers offend minorities by racial profiling, it makes the country divide even more. You would think that after the civil rights movement people would become as one; however, racial profiling only makes it worse. How can we unite as a country if we can not look past the surface? Racial profiling is a great divider among the people in America; if America can not look past its differences this problem will worsen, and then America, the land of the great, will fall. Donââ¬â¢t ask what the police can do to make the situation better-but what can we do to help the police make theà situation better! The Possibility of real criminals getting away is becoming a threat to society because police are overlooking the fact that he or she is not a minority. If a detective is given a description that does not include the ethnicity of the suspect, they automatically search for a suspect that has the ethical background of the African American, or Hispanic decent. This happens because African-Americans and Hispanics are known for causing the most crimes, which is why we need to stop the racial profiling. With that being said, this inevitably disregards all the possible suspects who are not of the minority decent. Even though racial profiling is used by police to narrow down their search for the possible suspects, minority citizens become more intensified with the fact that they are the ones being targeted and accused for such crimes that they did not commit. To conclude, racial profiling is a conflict all around America. We as citizens in America need to our best to stop racial profiling; I reiterate we need to try our best to stop racial profiling! I heard this quote once ââ¬Å"United we stand, but divided we fall.â⬠This quote should urge you to want to put an end to racial profiling. Racial profiling is something that may never stop in America. It is wrong and unjust. Still, it is something worth fighting for, for the many who suffer because of the problem and for this country in general. Everyone has different opinions on Racial Profiling, some people say there are benefits or others have negative impacts on racial profiling.

Essay --
According to Kotler et al. (2010) believes the concept of positioning in marketing is identify customer needs, establish processes, innovate and implement products. When a company knows or determine their target market segments, they have to understand what are their positions, where are they now? Where they want them to be in those segments. Also, the product's position are very important to other competitive products because in the market there are so many choices which consumers can make a buying decision. However, once the product can occupies and leaves a good impression in the customer's mind immediately they are going to choose those products by the next time. Therefore, to create a unique value and position with customers are significant especially in hotel brand's management as well as other product's brand, they must have a clear concept and purpose to use their employees reaching company's goal. For hotel Golden Arch to make itself novel so they were trying to make something unique and differentiate itself from other hotels because they think it is going to work well and can attract more guests come to the hotel, they were using a concept by replacing ââ¬Å"the traditional hotel industry applied job specialization and hierarchy systemâ⬠Michel (2005, p.4). For examples, the guest can check-in and out of the hotel at the airport, use the foldable-wall technology for meeting room, comfortable bed, especially make the shower projected into the bedroom and the McDonald's restaurant located exactly next to the hotel which means that customers have one more option for their meal but other competitors they do not. From McDonald and Dunbar (2004, p.34) suggest that ââ¬Å" market segmentation being the process of splitting custom... ...it seems like not so many people stay in the hotel, it was very quiet, unpleasant behaviour, no activity and they thought that the hotel would be one to two stars, they didn't expect it would be a four star hotel. Due to these reasons the company didn't success because the Golden Arches is a four star hotel, they are depending on the luxury type like other four and five star hotel. Although they were using their product's brand expand into hotel industry even for the design concept is like using everywhere with the existing logo of McDonald for example, like in the picture shown that on the head of the bed was painting with a shaped of yellow arches, from what they saw immediately they will think about McDonald's brand. Furthermore, because it is a four star hotel and next to the hotel is a fast food restaurant which cannot match with the concept of four star hotel.

Catcher In the Rye vs. Grapes of Wrath Essay
The inherent aversion to corruption in society often inspires individuals to respond to the issue in hopes of minimizing the drastic effects it may have on people. This shared disdain for such corruption is analyzed in The Catcher in the Rye and The Grapes of Wrath. Both authors address the corruption; however they do so from different perspectives they come to differing resolutions. Both protagonists in their novels experience isolation as a result of societyââ¬â¢s corruption; however, Salingerââ¬â¢s chooses to isolate himself whereas Steinbeckââ¬â¢s experiences isolation inadvertently. J.D. Salingerââ¬â¢s The Catcher in the Rye and John Steinbeckââ¬â¢s The Grapes of Wrath share a social commentary about how corruption pervades every aspect of society and due to societyââ¬â¢s corruption, people either experience isolation by choice or through condemnation. Alienation and isolation due to societyââ¬â¢s corruption is relevant in both novels through the characterization of the protagonists. For example, Salinger develops Holden Caulfield, a socially inadequate teenager who distances himself from others due to their phoniness. From the onset of the novel, Salinger develops Holdenââ¬â¢s desire to remove himself from society because of his belief that everyone is a phony. Although he disguises his motives to Old Spencer for leaving schools, Holden admits that ââ¬Å"The reason [he] left Elkton Hills was because [he] was surrounded by phonies. Thatââ¬â¢s all. They were coming in the goddam windowâ⬠(13). Holden goes to great efforts to distance himself from others believing that he alone is genuine and authentic in society. Later in the novel, Holden makes plans to go on a date with Sally Hayes and nearly cancels on account of her ââ¬Ëphony language.ââ¬â¢ Analyzing her talk Holden thinks ââ¬Å"Grand. If thereââ¬â¢s one word I hate, itââ¬â¢s grand. Itââ¬â¢s so phony. For a second, I was tempted to tell her to forget about the matineeâ⬠(106). Holden also mentally isolates himself; he avoids social situations and even when in them, he distances himself with the confidence that whomever he is with is not worth his time. Holdenââ¬â¢s discovery of ââ¬Å"fuck youâ⬠being written or carved publically further augments his hatred for societyââ¬â¢s corruption and because of them, he condemns society as a whole, not willing to make an exception for anyone. He ponders his death and thinks ââ¬Å"If I ever die, and they stick me in a cemetery, and I have a tombstone and all, itââ¬â¢ll say ââ¬ËHolden Caulfieldââ¬â¢ on it,â⬠¦ and then right under that itââ¬â¢ll say ââ¬ËFuck you.ââ¬â¢ Iââ¬â¢m positive, in factâ⬠(204). Holden is positive that all of society is corrupted and he judges those he encounters, as well as those he does not, never completely grasping that he is practically suspending whatever social existence he may have had. In The Catcher in the Rye Salingerââ¬â¢s protagonistââ¬â¢s objective is to be uninvolved in societal functions due to its corruption. Similar to The Catcher in the Rye, a central focus of The Grapes of Wrath is separation from society and modern culture. Steinbeckââ¬â¢s protagonist, Tom Joad, upon his arrival in California, is alienated and shunned because he is labeled as an ââ¬Å"Okie.â⬠The reality of Tomââ¬â¢s alienation is revealed through the conversation he has with a migrant returning from California who found no work. The migrant man informs Tom that the term ââ¬Å"Okie useââ¬â¢ ta mean you was from Oklahoma. Now it means youââ¬â¢re a a dirty son-of-a-bitch. Okie means youââ¬â¢re scum. Donââ¬â¢t mean nothing itself, itââ¬â¢s the way they say itâ⬠(206). Tom, representing his whole family, is discriminated against merely because he is from Oklahoma. After Tom and his family stop shortly on their journey the men who handle them discuss how subordinate the Okies are. The men wonder how Tom can make it through with such a junky car and they say ââ¬Å"Them goddam Okies got no sense and no feeling. they ainââ¬â¢t human. A human being wouldnââ¬â¢t live like they do. A human being couldnââ¬â¢t stand it to be so dirty and miserable. They ainââ¬â¢t a hell of a lot better than gorillasâ⬠(221). Tom is treated like he is subordinate largely due to his socioeconomic condition, which is significantly worse than the people of California. Such harsh condemnation due to a place of origination reveals how societyââ¬â¢s corruption has lead to the inadvertent alienation Tom receives throughout the novel. Though Holden Caulfieldââ¬â¢s isolation from others is deliberate, and Tom Joad is involuntarily segregated, isolation as a re sult of societyââ¬â¢s corruption plays a significant role in both novels. Salinger and Steinbeck also use different motifs to illustrate societyââ¬â¢s corruption and its effect on people. In The Catcher in the Rye Salinger uses the motif of the preservation of innocence to clarify the gravity of societyââ¬â¢s corruption. Holden loses his innocence as a child when his brother Allie dies. Although he cannot come to terms with his brotherââ¬â¢s death, Holden is confident that he can find solace by saving the other innocent children from the corrupt society they live in. Holden tells his younger sister Phoebe, his main inspiration for preserving innocence, that ââ¬Å"[he has] to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliffâ⬠¦. [He will] just be the catcher in the rye and all. [He knows] itââ¬â¢s crazy but thatââ¬â¢s the only thing [heââ¬â¢d] really like to beâ⬠(173). Holdenââ¬â¢s only ambition in life is to rescue children from falling into societyââ¬â¢s corruption. He is so infatuated with this notion that he even refuses to sleep with a prostitute that he has paid for. As the prostitute is waiting to do what she is getting paid for, Holden realizes how young she is and asks ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t you feel like talking for a while?â⬠and then acknowledges that ââ¬Å"It was a childish thing to say, but [he] was feeling so damn pecul iarâ⬠(95). So troubled by her lost innocence, Holden cannot bring himself to go through with it. Holden desires to drive out all evil throughout the novel, yet he realizes that he cannot. When Holden sees the words ââ¬Å"fuck youâ⬠written in Phoebeââ¬â¢s school, Holden realizes that ââ¬Å"If you had a million years to do it in, you couldnââ¬â¢t rub out even half the ââ¬Ëfuck youââ¬â¢ signs in the world. Itââ¬â¢s impossibleâ⬠(202). The fact that he cannot save the world from societyââ¬â¢s corruption is difficult for Holden to accept but instills in him even more passion to do all he can to preserve as much innocence as possible. Thus, Salinger suggests that society and its corruption is far beyond salvable despite great efforts. Societyââ¬â¢s corrupting influence of others can also be seen through Steinbeckââ¬â¢s motif of societyââ¬â¢s lies and deception. Steinbeck reveals the corruption in the car dealers as the Joad family is about to embark on their travels. The Joads need to get a car and such a process is full of lies from the car dealers who exploit the migrantsââ¬â¢ necessities to make more profit. The dealers manipulate the migrants by the dayââ¬â¢s bargain: ââ¬Å"Makes folks come in though. If we sold that bargain at that price weââ¬â¢d hardly make a dime. Tell ââ¬Ëem itââ¬â¢s jusââ¬â¢ soldâ⬠(62). The cars dealers are selling pieces of junk for ridiculous payments from the migrants who believe that they had missed the dayââ¬â¢s bargain. Societyââ¬â¢s corruption is also embodied by the land owners in California who are sending out the handbills asking for men to work. A ragged old man informs the Joads that ââ¬Å"This fella wants eight hundred men. So he prints up five thousand of them things anââ¬â¢ maybe twenty thousanââ¬â¢ people sees ââ¬Ëem. Anââ¬â¢ maybe two-three thousanââ¬â¢ folks get movinââ¬â¢ account a this here hanââ¬â¢billâ⬠(189). The land owners are aware of the fact that migrants are so desperate for money and food and exploit their necessity by promoting their own need for people to work. When the multitudes of migrants come and are willing to work all day for only a couple biscuits, the land owners know they can use this for their own benefit by taking advantage of hard labor and little pay. Societyââ¬â¢s corruption is depicted through the authorsââ¬â¢ development of motifs that reveal how pervasive it truly is. Salinger and Steinbeckââ¬â¢s commentary on the corruption of society and its effect differs greatly in the novelsââ¬â¢ resolution of the protagonists and the development of their motifs. Although both authors use characterization to portray their social commentary, they go about it in two different manners. While the Grapes of Wrath, with respect to social alienation, focuses more on approval among those who are convincingly greater or ââ¬Å"high-classâ⬠, The Catcher in the Ryeââ¬â¢s main characterââ¬â¢s intents are to be left out of societyââ¬â¢s affairs and people themselves. Salingerââ¬â¢s protagonist is a stagnant character who makes very little progress in working through societyââ¬â¢s corruption and trying to figure out how to handle it. Holden continues to fail to preserve the innocence as well as acknowledging his inability to get over the misconception that he himself has not been tainted by the corruption. On the other hand, Steinbeck develops Tom Joad, who goes about great transformation throughout the novel. Tom continues to fight for what he knows to be a better form of society and even when he loses almost everything, continues to press on. The resolution of the two novels and their protagonistsââ¬â¢ roles in them reveal the different views of social corruption they both have. Holdenââ¬â¢s lack of progress reveals Salingerââ¬â¢s belief that the corruption permeating society is incurable. Contrasting that, Steinbeckââ¬â¢s dynamic protagonist who makes society a little bit better reveals his confidence that there will be a day in which societyââ¬â¢s corruption will be minimized. The motifs developed by the two authors also expose the difference in social commentaries. Salingerââ¬â¢s motif of preserving innocence shows his desire to salvage what he can from society; however, Holdenââ¬â¢s realization that such a task is impossible symbolizes his conviction that society will always be corrupt. In contrast, the lies and deceit that pervade Steinbeckââ¬â¢s novel reveal societyââ¬â¢s corruption in every aspect and phase of life but he resolves his book with the Joads being successful. Although the two authors make the same social commentary about societyââ¬â¢s corruption, Steinbeck and Salinger present their ideas in fundamentally different ways with differing resolutions of their protagonists and differing motifs.
